Linda graciously drives us out to O’Hare. Cashing in stacks and STACKS of points and miles, we truly did enjoy the flights out in first/business-class luxury. We took in Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino which is at LEAST as good as all the reviews said. I got a bit more sleep than Gabe did, but we pulled ourselves together in the morning (European time) and found our driver to get over to Judy’s digs in the Hague.
There we introduced ourselves to her two rambunctious male kittens, and paid our respects to the now-elderly matriarch Tripletje. Much of our couple days there was spent adjusting to the time change and generally unwinding; we did take the bus downtown and enjoyed an extensive, couple-dozen-dish rijstable -- quite a feast and not too hot for me to handle. Hooray! It was a very pleasant evening so we ambled down a wide parkway to inspect an installation of contemporary Chinese sculpture, which ranged from an oversized “corrugated cardboard” carton with contents spilling out of a banged-up corner, to giant male figures in sumo-ish poses, to a bright-orange latticed interpretation of T. Rex!
